Tenants

If you are a tenant living in South Gloucestershire and you are unhappy with your living conditions then we may be able to help you.

The Private Sector Housing Section is responsible for ensuring that tenanted properties are kept up to an acceptable standard. We use what is known as the Housing Health and Safety Rating System to assess whether properties are suitable for occupation. This system covers a whole range of hazards including damp, cold, pollutants, fire, electrical safety, falls, overcrowding, food safety, sanitation and structural problems.

An officer will visit to assess your property and, if there are actionable hazards present, will contact your landlord advising of the works needed to remedy them. In most cases this is sufficient to get the works carried out, but if the landlord is un-co-operative or if works are required urgently, the officer will serve a statutory notice.
