Spring clean planned for local park

12 May 2008

Residents are being invited to take part in the first spring clean up of Emerson’s Green Park on Monday 19 May.

Young people from 67th Kingswood (1st Mangotsfield) ) scout group, in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council, will be clearing litter and rubbish throughout the park and the surrounding open spaces as part of continuing efforts to assist with the management of the local environment , and they hope residents who have a few hours to spare will join them.

Simon Budd, group scout leader from the 67th Kingswood (1st Mangotsfield) scout group, said: “We are delighted to be able to help improve our local environment through this spring clean event.

“Our cubs and scouts use the park so it’s great for them to be able to put something back into the local community.”

Gloves, bags and tools for the clean-up event will all be provided and anyone who is interested in taking part should meet outside Emerson’s Green library at 6.30pm on Monday 19 May.

John Morris, South Gloucestershire Council’s wild roots officer, said: “We would be delighted to welcome local residents who are keen to help with the tidy up.

“The evening will also provide an opportunity to hear people’s views about the park and how it could be improved.”

A new Friends Group is being set up to look after the park and surrounding open spaces and the council is very keen to talk to local residents who may have a couple of hours spare each month to help keep the park in top condition.

John added: “Anyone who is interested in helping with the future management of the park, and those interested in the wildlife and historical features in the area are welcome to join the Friends group.”
