Jam Busting June 2008

Jam Busting June

Are you up the commuter challenge?

Everyone knows that there are just too many cars on the road, creating traffic jams, parking and safety problems, pollution, and noise. We also risk our health through reduced physical activity. But breaking the habit of car use can be difficult. We have designed Jam Busting June to help you make that change, to help make our cities, towns and streets better places for everybody.

What is Jam Busting June?

Jam Busting June is a month long promotion organised by Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol City, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire Council’s to encourage the use of sustainable transport during June. Launched in 2005, it’s now back for the fourth year running.

A simple concept

The idea is simple – as an employee you can take up the challenge to get to work without your car, or by car-sharing during June. For every six one way trips (or three return journeys) you achieve this (ten for motorcycles over 400cc) you earn an entry in a free prize draw. Eligible modes include walking, cycling, scooter, motorcycle, bus, park & ride, train, ferry, car sharing and working from home – and anything else which isn’t driving one your own such as skateboarding or rollerblading!

I heard about it last year, was it a success?

Yes – almost 3,000 commuters across the area saved almost 50,000 car miles, cutting queues and damage to the environment.

Sounds good, what can we win?

Prizes on offer include:

  • iPod touch with solar charger
  • £100 Mall Cribbs Causeway vouchers
  • Watershed tickets – for cinema and money off in the café
  • iPod Nano
  • Digital camera

Any many other prizes! Visit the website for the full list including our generous prize donators.

Team competition

You can also increase your chances of winning by setting up a team. Simply choose a team name and then invite up to 3 colleagues to sign up and join your team. This can all be done via the website.

So, how do I take part?

Simply register at www.JamBustingJune.com and record your commuting diary. When it gets to the end of June simply submit your diary through the website and keep your fingers crossed – good luck!
