Child protection is about the safeguarding of children who are being abused or are in danger of being abused. We have a multi-agency responsibility involving children's services, health services, police and voluntary groups, and groups concerning children, parents, carers, schools and others to ensure that children are safe and protected.
Training in child protection is provided for those working with children and each school must have a designated teacher for child protection matters. Children at risk of physical, emotional or sexual abuse, or neglect, may be placed on a confidential register following a child protection case conference. Equally, a formal decision is required to remove the name of a child from the CP Register.
Our guidance leaflets are available to download in the 'Read more' section on this page.
If you have ANY concerns about possible abuse it MUST be reported to the Department for Children and Young People. The first point of contact is through the Children and Young People Information Service on 01454 868008 who will signpost the enquiry to the relevant service.
If it is out of office hours then please call the Emergency Duty Team on 01454 615165 or the Public Protection Unit of the police on 0117 9455969.
