The 'sorry mate I didn't see you' campaign

Smidsy sign
Every year, more than 70 motorcyclists are injured in accidents on roads in South Gloucestershire.

A large number of these accidents happen because drivers fail to give way to motorcyclists or turn across their path. These are sometimes called 'Smidsy' accidents – "sorry mate, I didn't see you!"

In a bid to reduce the number of accidents of this type in South Gloucestershire, we launched a campaign to draw drivers' attention to the fact that motorcyclists are legitimately using the road and to look out for them.

The Smidsy campaign focused on motorcycle accident 'hotspots' - where road signs will remind drivers to look out for motorcyclists.

The Smidsy campaign aimed to show all road users that, by taking a little bit more care to watch out for each other, we could all be safer on the roads.
