Standing for election

To become nominated as a candidate, you need to submit a set of completed nomination papers to the Returning Officer by 12 noon on Monday 4 April 2011. This deadline is set out in law and cannot be moved for any reason. Nomination papers will be available for download from this webpage from the 1st March 2011 or by contacting the helpline on 01454 863030.

The election timetable set the timeframe for running the election. A copy is available in the 'Read more' section.

Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at South Gloucestershire Council, Council Offices, Castle Street, Thornbury, BS35 1HF. You can hand deliver or post your nomination papers. If possible, we recommend that you, your agent or someone you trust hand delivers them so that you can be sure that they have been received.

The Notice of Election is published on 24th March 2011 and nominations can be accepted from this point until the deadline on 4th April 2011.

Nomination papers should be submitted as early as possible to give the Returning Officer an opportunity to conduct an informal check and to give you sufficient time to resubmit a fresh nomination paper should yours be invalid.
