Pay your council tax

Types of payment

Payments are normally divided and spread over ten months from April to January.

You can pay by:

  • direct debit
  • via the council's website *
  • Via the council's 24 hour automated telephone payments service *
  • internet banking
  • cheque (made payable to South Gloucestershire Council)
  • postal order through the Post Office
  • standing order (set this up with your bank)
  • at the Post Office or Payzone outlet using the barcode on the reverse of your bill

* Please be aware that if you choose to pay by credit card for council tax via the council's website or 24 hour automated telephone payments service, an additional charge of 1.8% will be applied to cover the council's bank charges. There will be no charge for debit cards.

Your billing number

You will need to quote your billing number when making payments. Your billing reference number is a 9 digit number which starts with 4 and is shown on your bill.

Arrears

Please ensure that you leave enough time for your payment to reach the council's accounts to make sure that you do not fall into arrears.

 

What you can expect

You will be transferred to our payments handling agent - Axis Online Services. Follow the on-screen instructions. The system for paying on-line is encrypted and fully secure. When the payment details have been completed you will receive a confirmation email.
