South Gloucestershire Council’s Active Mind Month proved a great success with residents across South Gloucestershire. Over 3,000 people attended over 70 events held in libraries, community venues and open spaces. Highlights including a sold out for a talk from Aardman Animation at Staple Hill Library, a capacity crowd for a Wild Food Foraging Walk and over 240 people visiting Yate Library to try out new arts and crafts.
Cllr James Hunt, executive member for communities, said “The aim of the month was to get more people active within their communities through taking part in events and finding out about the huge range of community groups that help make South Gloucestershire such a great place to live and work. Research has shown that people who regularly take part in activities and are not only more mentally active, but tend to be happier and healthier too. We want everyone in lead healthier lives and South Gloucestershire wants everyone to have an active mind in an active body”.
The Council worked with local groups to provide them with a venue in which to promote their activities and also showcased some of the world leading creative industries that exist in South Gloucestershire such as Aardman and the development of the Bloodhound car.
Due to the success of the month the Council is already planning on repeating the month next year.
