Two Cows and a Vanful of Smoke by Peter Benson
This book is a delightful tale of country folk with an underlying feeling of menace as Elliot the main character is dragged into a world of dangerous criminals. There’s plenty of action including car chases and shootings but the narrative always seems to come back to the gentle, descriptive rural scenes injected with plenty of humour – is “cow tipping” really possible?, which for me made the whole book utterly charming. A perfect summer read with a bit of edge to it. Highly recommended!
