Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
Haruki Murakami is arguably one of the world’s greatest living writers, and this absorbing novel is a fantastic example of his work. Set in modern-day Japan, it follows the stories of two main characters: a runaway teenager and an old man who has the ability to talk to cats. It’s a complex blend of adventure, surrealism, coming-of-age, heroic quest, murder mystery, and fantasy all rolled into one.
If you haven’t read any Murakami before, this book is a great place to start.
