Denominational schools
Transport will be provided for a pupil to attend a denominational primary or secondary school in certain circumstances. Information giving full details of our policy on denominational school transport is available from the Children & Young People Information Service and parents/carers are strongly advised to be aware of this before making decisions about admission to a denominational school.
Exceptionally Hazardous Routes
Ordinarily transport will not be provided for pupils who live nearer to school than the statutory walking distance. However, if it is considered that the nearest available walking route to the nearest appropriate school represents a significant and particular road danger, transport may be provided even if it is nearer than the statutory walking distance to school.
Children with Disabled Parents/Carers
Children of disabled parents/carers who rely on their parents/carers to accompany them to school along a walking route considered to be safe, but where the disability of the parent/carer prevents them from doing so, will be entitled to apply for free transport to their nearest appropriate school. Each case will be considered on its individual merits.
Other Policies
Transport may exceptionally be provided to school for a limited period when access to school is denied for other reasons.
All post 16 students attending schools may apply for means-tested assistance specifically towards the cost of transport.
South Gloucestershire Council considers applications for transport on SEN grounds for post-16 students attending school or college on an individual basis.
