The council offers the following facilities: - Reception classes in infant and primary schools
- 8 nursery classes attached to infant and primary schools
Children are not legally required to attend school until they are of compulsory school age, i.e. the term after their fifth birthday. General information on all other providers including pre-school playgroups and day nurseries is available in a leaflet. If you require a copy of these leaflets and/or information on individual providers, please contact the Children and Young People Information Service 01454 868008. Application forms and further information for nursery classes at the following schools are available from each school and the Student Access and Support section. Application forms are available from the beginning of term 1 and the closing date is Friday 14th December 2007.
Please note that admission to a nursery class does not mean that there is an automatic right of admission to the same school.
Criteria for admissions to nursery schools, 2007
The sequence of events can be summarised as follows:
- September 2007 - schools issued with application forms
- December 2007 - closing date for receipt of applications
- January 2008 - schools send forms to Student Access and Transport with a covering list for checking and processing
- February 2008 - Welfare Services send a list of priority children. These children are added to the list
If there are more places than applications:
- March 2008 - the schools write to parents offering places from the list
- June 2008 - priority place list closes
If there are more applications than places:
- March 2008 - a draw is set up to take place at the schools concerned
- The schools offering places write to successful applicants. The schools will also have a waiting list made up of late and unsuccessful applicants
