KINGSWOOD – Town Council Consultation
The Council are carrying out a review of the way decisions are made on local issues in your area and want to hear your views. We want to know if you would like a Town Council created to represent the interests of Kingswood.
Why are we carrying out the review?
The area where you live is currently unparished - there is no town or parish council in place. Arrangements in the unparished area were last reviewed in 2012. Kingswood has seen considerable change in this time, with work starting on the regeneration of the historic town centre, including the ongoing Whitfield Tabernacle restoration and the recent Masterplan consultation. This review considers how we can maintain this positive momentum in the town.
What is a Town Council?
- Parish and Town councils are the most local form of government and are democratically elected representatives of a distinct local community.
- Parish and Town Councils have statutory powers which may be complimentary to those provided by South Gloucestershire Council.
- They focus on very local issues and concerns.
How will the review impact me?
If a new town council was created for Kingswood this could result in the following changes:
- A stronger voice on what happens in Kingswood, such as planning applications and the management of public spaces
- Greater control over the look and feel of your area, for instance adding additional seating and bins in public spaces
- Better reporting on value for money – the parish council will have to report to you on local spending and how they have delivered what you asked for
- You can view a map of the proposed area by clicked here.
How to have your say
We would like to know what you think.

Marking a consultation as relevant to a particular audience indicates that it may be of special relevance to people within that group. It doesn't, however, mean that other groups wont find the consultation of interest - we welcome responses from everybody.
For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant. |
