Smokefree South Gloucestershire

Smokefree branding

1 July 2007 brought the smokefree regulations into place and virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England are now smoke-free. This includes hotels, pubs, clubs, cafés, restaurants, offices, shops, factories and warehouses. In fact, all enclosed buildings where people work are now smoke-free. There are some exemptions including designated rooms in hotels, residential care homes and prisons.

The next steps

Building on the success of the legislation, the Department of Health has announced the next steps it will take to protect children and young people from the harmful effects of tobacco. It has announced plans to remove cigarette displays from view in shops and supermarkets. There are also plans to place restrictions on the location and operation of vending machines to prevent children and young people purchasing cigarettes from them. The dates when these actions come into force will be announced soon. View the Smokefree Action website under Other websites for more details
