Community benefit officer

The community benefit officers (CBO) have helped to make claiming housing and council tax benefit easier for the residents of South Gloucestershire.

The aim of the community benefit officer is to make the benefits service more accessible for the residents of South Gloucestershire and to provide a flexible, speedy and efficent service.

If you want to:

  • Make a new claim for housing and/or council tax benefit
  • Report a change in your circumstances (if you are already receiving benefit)
  • Report a change of address (if you are already receiving benefit)
  • Provide evidence in support of your benefit claim

You can do all these things by making an appointment with a community benefit officer.

The officer will aim to assess your claim within 2 working days of your appointment, they will then contact you to tell you that your claim has been assessed.

The community benefit officers are based in the councils one stop shops on the following days (please see "Contacting Us" for the address of the one stop shops):

  • Kingswood - Monday, Wednesday and Friday (between 9am and 4pm)
  • Thornbury - Wednesday (between 9am and 4pm)
  • Yate - Tuesday and Thursday (between 9am and 4pm)

You can make an appointment by contacting us by telephone or by visiting a one stop shop and speaking to a customer service advisor.

In the very near future we will be setting up benefit surgeries where you can drop in at various locations within the South Gloucestershire area and speak to a community benefit officer for benefit advice, the dates and venues of the surgeries will be published on this page very soon.
