Learning Difficulties Partnership Board

group of people with learning difficulties

The Learning Difficulties Partnership Board (LDPB) is a group of people who make sure the work of Valuing People happens in South Gloucestershire.

Valuing People: 'A New Strategy for Learning Disability for the 21st Century’, is the first White Paper for 30 years with the aim of improving the lives of people with learning difficulties, their families and carers.

Valuing People set out the Governments vision that people with learning difficulties should;

  • have the same rights as every other citizen
  • have choice in their daily lives
  • be independent
  • have real opportunities and be included in their local communities

To make sure that change happens, the White Paper said that every Local Authority should have a Learning Difficulties Partnership Board. South Gloucestershire’s LDPB was set up in October 2001 and is co-chaired by Executive Councillor for Community Care and Housing, Matthew Riddle and Leigh Campbell.

Its members include people with learning difficulties, carers, representatives from different South Gloucestershire Council Departments, South Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust and voluntary and independent organisations.

Although it is the Council’s responsibility for organising and leading the Partnership Board it is the members’ role to make sure they include everyone in the plans that are made to make sure Valuing People happens.
