The council's dog wardens are responsible for:
- Lost and found dogs
- Rehoming stray dogs
- Microchipping dogs
- Helping solve disputes and problems about dogs
- Education and advice about dogs and responsible dog ownership
- Enforcing dog fouling bye-laws and other legislation
The dog wardens also give talks to local schools and other community groups on responsible dog ownership. If your school or group would like the dog wardens to give a talk please contact us.
We operate five days a week from 8.45am to 5pm (4.30pm on fridays).We will respond to reports of missing and found dogs during these hours. If you have lost or found a dog outside these hours contact the council and you will be given the phone number for the out of hours service. Please note that there is no collection service for found dogs but dogs can be taken to the kennels until 11pm. (The police no longer have any responsibility for stray dogs).
