Changes are being made from the 1st August 2011
The following restrictions to using the SORT IT Centres apply:
Asbestos & Plasterboard
Maximum 6 sheets of asbestos per project. Asbestos must be double wrapped in sealed plastic for safety reasons. Please notify us by calling 01454 868000 before bringing asbestos to the site. We do not accept asbestos at our Stoke Gifford site.
NEW Plasterboard is restricted to 6 bags or sheets per project.
Car and motorcycle tyre
Maximum 4 per household per year.
Carrying Waste for Others
If you have a neighbour or relative living in South Gloucestershire who is unable to take their own domestic waste to their local Sort It!* Centre (due to mobility or transport problems) you may take their materials to site on their behalf. Please ensure that any items that could be reused or recycled are pre-sorted prior to visiting the site to make it easier for you and the staff there. As part of the Council’s policy in ensuring these sites are available only to South Gloucestershire residents please bring with you proof of your residency and that of the person you are assisting. Should you be paid for transporting the waste you will not be entitled to use any of the sites for this as the waste would then be treated as commercial.
DIY and Construction Waste
Waste from building renovation projects is not legally classed as household waste and cannot be disposed of at a Sort it!* Centre. Please use a skip hire service or pay for disposal at the waste transfer stations adjacent to the Sort It!* Centres at Yate or Mangotsfield. Alternatively, use a suitably licensed commercial waste disposal site.
We cannot accept waste created by third parties working on building or home improvement projects, even if it is brought in by the householder, as this is commercial waste.
Waste from smaller DIY projects undertaken by the householder can be accepted and should be recycled wherever possible. From 1st August 2011 the maximum quantity that can be recycled free of charge will be 6 bags or equivalent boot load.
Fire extinguishers
Household sizes only.
Gas Bottles
These remain the property of the supplier and should be returned to them.
Pedestrians and Cyclists
Please note that the Sort It Centres are designed for vehicular access only. Residents unable to travel to a site in a vehicle are required to make an appointment first. Please refer to the pedestrian information leaflet opposite for more information
Petrol and Diesel
Disposal of these is not allowed for health and safety reasons. Please use suitably licensed hazardous waste disposal contractors for this waste.
Trailer size restriction
From August 1st 2011 Trailers, smaller than 2 metres, with double axles will now be able to use the sites at Yate, Mangotsfield, and Thornbury. Trailers with boxes longer than two metres are not allowed on to the sites at Yate, Mangotsfield and Thornbury. This policy is in place to help reduce delays caused by large trailers manoeuvring round the sites while still letting householders use smaller trailers to deliver waste. There is a total ban on all trailers at the Little Stoke Sort It!* Centre.
Used engine oil
1 gallon (5 litres) per visit.
Vans (NEW)
From 1st August 2011, vans of transit size, type or larger will only be able to use the sites at Yate, Mangotsfield and Thornbury between the following times:
Monday to Friday: 10:00 – 14:00
Saturday: 08:00 - 12:00
This policy is in place to help reduce delays during busy periods caused by large vans unloading, and to target possible traders trying to dispose of commercial waste.
There is an existing 1.8 metre height restriction at the Little Stoke Sort It!* Centre.
