Community composting sites are run by volunteers and supported by the council. If you live locally to a community composting site, you may use it as a disposal point for compostable garden waste. The sites must not be used for the disposal of trade waste.
The sites produce a good quality and sustainable compost which you can take away for your own use, a small donation is always appreciated and it helps to support the volunteers and to keep the service going. The compost will be found at each site and you will need to bring a suitable bag and a shovel. Take care and don’t try to lift too much in one go.
Locations
• Thornbury, at the back of the leisure centre car park.
• Yate, at Shireways Community Centre, Shire Way.
• Patchway, allotments off Newnham Place – temporarily closed.
• Hawksbury Upton, behind the Village hall in the High Street.
The sites are open all hours but please be mindful of the neighbours and your own safety if visiting after dark.
If your community has a need for a composting site and does not already have one, or if you would like a large quantity of the compost then please contact us on 07887 480082.
