Collecting food waste

Food waste is collected weekly on your normal collection day.

Every household has a 5 litre food waste caddy for your kitchen and a 25 litre kerbside food waste bin.

The small food waste caddy is to help you to collect your left over food from your kitchen and to transport it to the larger food waste bin for collection. The larger food waste bin has a lockable lid to keep food waste secure and to prevent any problems with smells or vermin.

Householders need to put their food waste bin out at their normal collection point with the lid in the locked position by 7am on collection day.

What happens to my food waste?

Environmentally, food waste when disposed of in landfill is harmful as it generates methane, one of the worst green house gases. With the introduction of our new weekly food waste collection service, food waste will be composted using an in vessel composter and the resulting compost is used to improve soil on farmland.
