Project Description:
The Landscape Consultancy worked closely with Technical Services to ensure that the required environmental mitigation measures were delivered through the civil engineering and landscape design for Stage 2 of the Avon Ring Road, and to ensure that these were achieved on the ground.
This stage of the Ring Road was part of a wider package of work which included other off site schemes such as the Attenuation Pond and Warmley Public Open Space for which the Landscape Consultancy also provided landscape architectural services.
The landscape scheme for Ring Road Stage 2 was designed to create a variety of habitats along the road and associated footpath and cycle route, to either compensate for habitat lost or to extend those found in adjacent areas. The extensive planting proposals were also designed to minimise the visual impact of the scheme and to protect visual amenity, while also delivering the commitments of the consented scheme and the Environmental Impact Statement.
A range of public art features have been integrated into the overall landscape scheme for Stage 2 of the Ring Road. The Landscape Consultancy has worked closely with a number of artists to deliver their work on the ground.
Date:
The Civils were completed in October 2002. The landscape works were completed in the 2002/3 planting season, with the maintenance contract continuing until 2007.
