The responsibility for dealing with new listing and listing amendments (as well as scheduled monuments) has been transferred from the Department of Culture Media and Sport to the regional offices of English Heritage. Please see the document under read me for details of how this works.
Historic buildings
In total (2006) there are 2,036 listed buildings within South Gloucestershire and of these there are 184 buildings and structures considered to be at risk and a further 111 buildings and structures which require monitoring. The council has a statutory duty to ensure that buildings of special architectural or historic interest are maintained under section 66 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act of 1990 and offers advice on proposed works. Grant aid also may be available for that purpose.
This list is subject to change.
A listed building means:
- A building included in the statutory list and any object or structure fixed to the building
- Any object or structure within the curtilage of the building which although not fixed to it forms part of the land and has done so since before 1st July 1948
Works affecting the character or historic fabric of such buildings requires listed building consent.
IMPORTANT NOTE - although we try to keep them up to date, these lists are not definitive. Inclusion or omission from these lists should not be taken as a decisive indication of whether or not a property is listed.
