Storms can occur, sometimes without warning, causing largescale damage to buildings and properties. If a storm is forecast you should consider the following:
- Keep pets indoors: In storms, Cats may get frightened and become lost as they seek shelter or are scared by thunder and lightning.
- Provide an indoor refuge away from noise and distractions for pets.
- Make sure outdoor pets have adequate shelter from rain and high winds.
- Remember to check on outdoor pets to ensure that they are secure and safe.
Floods
If floods are forecast consider the following:
- Bring pets indoors or move outdoor pets to a place of safety.
- Check that outdoor hutches/kennels are safe from potential flood waters.
Heatwaves
Animals can be just as affected in heatwaves as humans. You should therefore consider the following:
- Provide plenty of water for your pet.
- Provide a shaded area for your pet; move hutches and kennels into a shaded area.
- Regulary check on the welfare of your pets.
- NEVER leave pets in car unattended.
