Many animals can be instinctive when bad weather approaches. If you have warnings of severe weather you should consider:

Storms

Storms can occur, sometimes without warning, causing largescale damage to buildings and properties. If a storm is forecast you should consider the following:

  • Keep pets indoors: In storms, Cats may get frightened and become lost as they seek shelter or are scared by thunder and lightning.
  • Provide an indoor refuge away from noise and distractions for pets.
  • Make sure outdoor pets have adequate shelter from rain and high winds.
  • Remember to check on outdoor pets to ensure that they are secure and safe.

Floods

If floods are forecast consider the following:

  • Bring pets indoors or move outdoor pets to a place of safety.
  • Check that outdoor hutches/kennels are safe from potential flood waters.

Heatwaves

Animals can be just as affected in heatwaves as humans. You should therefore consider the following:

  • Provide plenty of water for your pet.
  • Provide a shaded area for your pet; move hutches and kennels into a shaded area.
  • Regulary check on the welfare of your pets.
  • NEVER leave pets in car unattended.
