What should I do if I'm being flooded?
- Move everyone to a place of safety – go upstairs.
- Stay where you are unless you are in imminent danger. Dial 999 if you are in danger.
- Avoid driving in flood waters.
- If you have to move, use a sturdy pole to check the path ahead – drain covers may have been lifted by flood water and there may be debris that you cannot see. DO NOT WALK IN MOVING WATER ABOVE KNEE HEIGHT – YOU MAY GET SWEPT AWAY.
- Beware – flood water could be contaminated with sewage – if you have to walk through floodwater cover open wounds and make sure that you wash as soon as you can.
