Planning Policy Framework for South Gloucestershire

The policies for South Gloucestershire are currently set out in the following documents which collectively comprise the development plan for South Gloucestershire:

> South Gloucestershire Local Plan, adopted 2006
> Joint Waste Core Strategy, adopted 2011
> Minerals and Waste Local Plan, adopted 2002
> Joint Replacement Structure Plan, adopted 2002
> Regional Planning Guidance Note 10 for the South West

The Council is currently preparing the South Gloucestershire Core Strategy, which when adopted will supersede some of the policies in the South Gloucestershire Local Plan. Supplementary and non-statutory planning guidance like supplementary planning documents and guidance, design guides and development briefs are also important considerations.

Regional and Sub-Regional Planning

Regional and sub-regional planning policy is currently undergoing substantial review by central government.

The Joint Replacement Structure Plan sets out strategic policies and proposals for the development and use of land in South Gloucestershire. However the saved policies in this document will be abolished when the Localism Bill that is currently (October 2011) passing through Parliament is enacted. On 27th September 2007 the following policies in this Structure Plan expired - Policies 3, 8, 18-20, 24, 25, 28, 34-36, 42, 45, 47, 50-52, 55, 59 and 60. The other policies remain in effect until the enactment of the Localism Bill.

The Government is also progressing the revocation of Regional Strategies. Therefore Regional Planning Guidance Note 10 for the South West will no longer form part of the development plan for South Gloucestershire. The Draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West that was under preparation but never adopted, does not form part of the adopted development plan.
