Home repair assistance
Home repair assistance involves carrying out essential repairs and improvements to homes. An enquiry form which includes a summary of the council's home repair assistance policy is available from our 'Read more' section on the right of this page.
Assistance is available in the form of subsidised loans. The loans are provided by Wessex Home Improvement Loans, a not-for-profit company working in partnership with 10 local authorities in the region including South Gloucestershire. They use funds provided by the Government especially for this purpose. For further information see 'Low Cost Home Improvement loans' in the read more section on this page.
Disabled Facilities Grant
Disabled Facilities Grants are given to help adapt a property to meet the needs of a disabled person. An enquiry form which includes a summary of the council's Disabled Facilities Grant Policy is available from the 'Read more' section. A guidance leaflet - 'CCH 61- Adaptations to your home' is also available from the 'Read more' section. This explains the Disabled Facilities Grant procedure.

South Gloucestershire Handy Van Service
The new South Gloucestershire Handy Van Service combines subsidised minor household repairs with free home safety and security checks. The subsidised minor household repairs and adaptations service is available to owner occupiers and private tenants who are either over 60 years old or disabled. The free home safety and security service is available to all owner occupiers and private tenants on request or referral.

Home Improvement Agency
Home Improvement Agencies support older and/or disabled homeowners and tenants who want to repair or adapt their homes. South Gloucestershire Council are working with Bristol City Council seeking views on a proposal to commission Home Improvement Agency Services across the West of England to produce efficiency savings and help improve the level of service. Low Cost Loans
Crisis loans are available for people living on a low income and faced with emergency costs that they are unable to meet. The loan has to be paid back but it is interest free. Telephone 0845 608 8616.
Budgeting Loans are available to people who have been getting income Support, income-based Jobseeker's allowance or pension credit for at least 26 weeks. the loan has to be paid back but it is interest free. Telephone 0845 608 8618.
Low Cost Furniture/ Household Items
Kingswood Furniture Project, Sofa Project and Emmaus provide low cost recycled furniture to people on low incomes. See Other websites for further details.
