Equalities

Joining hands

South Gloucestershire Council works for all parts of every community. Our aim is to:

  • Encourage mutual respect for all of our residents
  • Recognise and work with every diverse group
  • Give high quality inclusive services and facilities
  • Make sure our employment policies and practices are fair
  • Challenge harassment and discrimination

How do we do this?

  • We employ equalities officers who make sure that the council's equality policy and strategy is developed, carried out and monitored for effectiveness
  • We act to tackle the harassment of people because of race, religion, disability, age, gender and sexuality and give support to victims
  • We promote and monitor good equalities practice across the council by working with council officers and elected members
  • We meet with community groups who work for those at risk of discrimination and exclusion
  • We support these groups so that they can influence the way the council makes decisions that affect them
