South Gloucestershire Council works for all parts of every community. Our aim is to:
- Encourage mutual respect for all of our residents
- Recognise and work with every diverse group
- Give high quality inclusive services and facilities
- Make sure our employment policies and practices are fair
- Challenge harassment and discrimination
How do we do this?
- We employ equalities officers who make sure that the council's equality policy and strategy is developed, carried out and monitored for effectiveness
- We act to tackle the harassment of people because of race, religion, disability, age, gender and sexuality and give support to victims
- We promote and monitor good equalities practice across the council by working with council officers and elected members
- We meet with community groups who work for those at risk of discrimination and exclusion
- We support these groups so that they can influence the way the council makes decisions that affect them
