Sportivate funding

Sportivate is a nationwide campaign that will capture the excitement of the London 2012 Games by providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults (aged 14-25) to receive coaching in a sport of their choice and guide them into regular participation within their community.

West of England Sports Trust (Wesport) will be looking to support and develop projects across the West of England that will engage with and stimulate 14-25 year olds who don’t currently participate in sport or exercise targeting all sections of the community.

The funding available can help pay for coaches, equipment, venue costs, marketing or coach education.

Sportivate will fund 6 sessions after which there must be an opportunity for participants to continue with the activity through pathways into local clubs.

What is Sportivate?

  • Part of the ‘Play’ strand of Sport England’s mass participation legacy initiative ‘Places, People, Play’.
  • £32 million of National Lottery revenue funding from April 2011 to March 2015.
  • Sportivate will give participants aged between 14-25 the chance to receive 6 weeks of coaching in a sport of their choice.

Sportivate outcomes

  • To get more 14-25s regularly participating in community sport, with;
    – 300,000 completing the coaching sessions, by 2015.
    – 120,000 (2 in 5) continuing to play sport regularly following the coaching sessions, by 2015.
  • NGB community clubs and a range of relevant providers delivering a framework of sustainable opportunities that will match as well as generate demand.

Sportivate delivery

  • Sportivate will be delivered via County Sports Partnerships (Wesport) and will build on some of the principles learnt through Sport Unlimited.
  • Although Sportivate will commence in April 2011, CSP delivery of Sportivate may not begin until July 2011 due to the initial CSP planning and engagement period.
  • Sportivate is targeted at 14-25 year olds who would not prioritise or seek sporting opportunities in their own time, or those who may be doing a limited amount of sport.
