Community Sport and Active Lifestyles have invited local schools to Celebrate 2012 by entering into each of the Active South Gloucestershire Festival of Youth Sport events. We hope with the support of our local schools and partners that the event will be a highlight of 2012 for your young people.
The Festival will involve schools, local clubs, local businesses and South Gloucestershire employees all working together to improve the standard of sport and physical education throughout the local community.
Festival of Youth Sport - Dates
Spring - Tag Rugby Event Saturday 26th May 2012 Yate Outdoor Sports Complex
Summer - Multi Sport Event Saturday 7th July 2012 Filton College WISE Campus, Stoke Gifford
Spring Event – Tag Rugby Competition
The spring event in 2012 will be rugby focused with a competitive and non competitive come and play event held at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex. 3hrs coaching will be available to those schools that have not already received coaching from Bristol Rugby through the PE Association .
Schools for this year only can enter 2 TEAMS into the festival in either/or the competitive tournament or a come & play non competitive event.
Summer Event – Multi Sport Competition
The Festival of Youth Sport is coming together with the ‘Engage’ Festival to host an Engage Cultural Day showcasing different cultures through food, music, performance, school sport and community participation. So there will be plenty to see and do!
The festival will run as in previous years with an opening ceremony/parade and local sporting champions. 3hrs coaching will be available to those schools that have not already received coaching through one of our sports programmes excluding KS1 Multi Skills where there is no coaching attached.
Schools for this year only can enter 2 TEAMS into the festival, preferably in different events.

2012 marks the Eleventh year of the Festival of Youth Sport
Over the last 10 years this Award Winning Event has supported 32,000 young people through sports coaching in local schools and almost 11,400 have gone onto participate in the festival tournaments. With 86% of South Gloucestershire infants, primary and junior schools entering.
The festivals are a major sports participation programme held every year, open to all schools in South Gloucestershire. Each festival is a day of celebration when local young people are able to demonstrate and enjoy the skills and qualities that have developed by sports coaching.
The festival aims to:
- give children a memorable and enjoyable experience of sport
- encourage and establish links between sports clubs and schools
- raise the profile of local sport and sporting opportunities
- build a team of local qualified coaches to work in schools
- support and develop young people as officials, coaches, organisers and volunteers
- identify talented children for the future
- enable a local company to support its community
