EOP to DOP...
After a visit to my doctor I was referred to Exercise on Prescription. At my first meeting with Yvonne at Thornbury Leisure Centre we decided that my exercise would include swimming, walking and Dance on Prescription.
With some trepidation I arrived at the TLC dance studio with others - all of us 50+ - to be welcomed by our dance leader Ruth who soon set us at ease. She emphasized that we should take care and ' listen to our bodies' and not do anything that might cause us problems.
Thus began for me an enjoyable, stimulating and sociable way of exercising. Dance requires mental concentration as well as providing physical exercise. We were encouraged to think of a movement: this was the beginning of learning to make up our own dance sequences. Ruth transformed our ideas into a co-ordinated whole with patience and creativity using music from Van Morrison to Slumdog Millionaire!
We all enjoy ourselves, frequently laugh at and with each other and have even, with Lisa’s encouragement taken part in several events.
Dance on Prescription has helped me maintain my desired weight in a relaxed, encouraging and friendly atmosphere. Long may it continue!
