Want to get out and about in the fresh air?
Then why not get your family and friends together for a perfect picnic? It’s a great opportunity for some family fun, tasty food, a bit of activity and a chance to explore somewhere new! Follow our top tips to get you ready.
Step 1
Think about where you would like to go. Maybe your local park, a country park or wood or near a local river or lake.
Step 2
How will you get there? Could you combine your picnic with a walk or bike ride for a bit of activity?
Step 3
Plan what you will take. Don’t forget a blanket, cool bag, sun cream and sun hat, food, toys such as a football or kite and of course your family and friends!
Step 4
What will you eat? Why not…
• Go for some yummy summer fruit such as strawberries or raspberries to help towards your 5 a day!
• Include starchy foods such as sandwiches or a potato or pasta salad to give you energy;
• Get your calcium fix with cheese, milk or yogurt to keep your bones healthy;
• And include some protein to help you grow and develop by adding chicken, ham, fish or hummus.
Step 5
Keep it safe! Make sure your fabulous picnic food it kept chilled and fruit and veg is washed before you start munching! And of course wash your hands or use some antiseptic hand gel before you tuck in!
