Active for Life Club- an after school club with a difference!
Primary schools in South Gloucestershire have been offering an after school club with a difference!
The sessions, known as ‘Active for Life -Intergenerational clubs’ invite pupils at the school to bring members of their family along to after school activity sessions in a mixed age, mixed ability, multi skills based activity club. The clubs have enabled pupils to attend the club with their mums and dads, younger or older brothers or sisters as well as Grans and Grandads.
Hannah, at Christchurch School in Downend, brought her mum along to the club, she said: “It was great to be able to take part in games and activities with all different ages and I have really enjoyed coming to the club.”
The clubs help to promote respect and understanding between generations, help children and adults of all ages to benefit from increasing their physical activity as well as providing the families with ideas to take away and try at home!
Coach Joanna Steeds said, “It’s a great opportunity for families to experience the enjoyment of taking part in physical activity together. The clubs are easy for families to get to as they take place after school using school facilities.”
Those that registered for this Active for Life club were given freebies as part of Active for Life Scheme, along with extra information on events, and ideas to stay active.
