Public and voluntary sectors - getting it right together
The compact is a partnership between South Gloucestershire Council, other public agencies and the voluntary and community sector.
Voluntary and community organisations and public sector agencies in South Gloucestershire share the same fundamental aim, which is "to serve and represent the interests and promote the well being of local people and communities".
This local compact for South Gloucestershire seeks to enhance the relationship and build upon the best of existing approaches and policies by:
- Setting out a framework between voluntary and community groups, the local council and other public agencies
- Clarifying the relationship between the sectors, with greater understanding about what support the council is able to offer
- Creating a mechanism to review and address emerging issues
A compact is not a contract or legally binding document, but it is an expression of intentions and principles.
Its authority results from the respect granted to it by partners and from the extent to which it influences future decision-making and developments.
The compact makes clear partners' commitment to adopting systems and processes that will enhance the relationship between public services and the voluntary and community sector.
