Mangotsfield Cemetery

The council is responsible for four cemeteries in South Gloucestershire in which burials are taking place.

Mayshill Cemetery

Badminton Road, Downend, South Gloucestershire, BS36 2NS

This cemetery is located off Badminton Road between Yate and Coalpit Heath. It was established in 1973 it has a traditional section, lawn section, an infants section and a Garden of Remembrance pea gravel area for cremation plots.  A small standard rose tree can be planted by the side of a lawn headstone, although placing and planting on the grave area is not permitted.

You may pre-purchase a grave at this cemetery.

Filton Cemetery

Coldharbour Lane, Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire, BS16 1QD

This cemetery is located off Coldharbour Lane in Filton. It is a traditional cemetery established in 1947 providing areas for denominational burials. There are also cremation plots located in a pea gravel area.

New plots are limited and therefore it is not possible to pre-purchase a grave at this cemetery.

Mangotsfield Cemetery

This cemetery is located off Westerleigh Road in Downend. It was established in 1880 and is the oldest of the open cemeteries maintained by South Gloucestershire Council. The cemetery consists of a traditional area and a lawned area. The lawned area is often chosen because of its simplicity. It provides for infant and Roman Catholic burials as well as an area where cremated remains can be interred.

New plots are limited and therefore it is not possible to pre-purchase a grave at this cemetery.

Kingswood Remembrance Park

This cemetery is situated on top of the hill at Grimsbury Farm. It is a natural cemetery established in 2010 and offers an alternative to traditional options with beautiful and inspiring views over South Gloucestershire. There will be memorial shrub beds and wild flower/bulb areas, and a limited number of memorial trees with plaques will be available to lease. There are ample parking spaces and 3 lay-bys where water taps are available.

Cemetery opening times:

Oct-Mar: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat-Sun and public holidays 10am-4pm
Apr-Sept: Mon-Fri 8am-dusk, Sat-Sun and public holidays 10am-6pm

Chapel:

We have a small chapel seating approximately 50 people at Mangotsfield Cemetery, Downend which may be used for services prior to internment at any of the cemeteries listed above.

Closed cemeteries 

The council is also responsible for the upkeep of some closed churchyards. All other churchyards are the responsibility of the local church.
