About your youth service

Goup of teenagers

Places to meet

A wide selection of youth work happens in different locations, including:

  • Youth centres
  • Projects in schools, village halls and community centres
  • Information and advice centres
  • Mobile provision such as youth buses
  • Detached and outreach work where youth workers will meet you where you meet friends, for example in local parks, cafés and on the streets

Activities

You will be able to take part in activities including arts, dance, music and sport. These are designed to be fun, challenging and give you the chance to learn, develop and gain new skills. To check out what's happening in your local Youth Centre visit:  www.youthunltd.org.uk or use the link in the 'Other websites' section.

Respect

Youth workers will treat you with respect and provide support for you to use the service.
Bullying, racism and other forms of discrimination will not be accepted within the youth service and we will work alongside you to challenge this.

Have your say

You will be able to influence decisions and have your say on issues that affect you and other young people in your local youth work project and area through committees and groups such as South Gloucestershire Youth Forum.
Each year you will be able to give your views of the youth service through our annual survey.

Information and support

The youth service will help you to make decisions on issues that are important to you like health, relationships and drugs.
We will work with other agencies and services such as Connexions, social services and Safer South Gloucestershire to make sure you get the support you need.

Recognition and accreditation

Your participation and learning will be recognised through schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the South Gloucestershire Council Award for Young People.

Confidentiality - keeping information private

Youth workers will work with you on a confidential basis unless they believe that you or other people will be at risk of harm or danger. In these cases we are required to share information to keep you and others safe. We will always let you know if this is the case and encourage you to speak to someone with our support.

If you have a complaint

If you have a problem or complaint speak to one of the youth workers - all reasonable complaints can be worked out straight away.

You can also make a note in the comments book if there is one or email comments to the relevant youth centre.

If you need to make a formal complaint click on 'Do it now' on this page.
