South Gloucestershire was the first Council in the South West to have all our Phase 2 Sure Start Children's Centres designated by the Government Office before the deadline of 31 March 2008. This was a real team effort and we now look forward to embarking on Phase 3 of the programme.
Following a Select Committee meeting in July 2006, Executive Member approved location of eleven Sure Start Centres as part of the Government’s Phase 2 initiative. All eleven sites were required to be designated by March 2008 (or funding would be lost).
The Council has been successful in achieving designation for its eleven centres, two of which (Filton and Yate) are operating from temporary locations pending completion of new builds in July/August 2008. A letter of congratulations was received from the Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families on South Gloucestershire’s achievement.
