Transition project

This project aims to facilitate the transition from primary to secondary school. It also gives support workers a greater range of skills and experience of working with and addressing the the needs of vulnerable children and young people. Students are drawn from the main feeder primaries of the secondary schools and are identified by staff in the schools and by local education authority support staff. They are invited to a week-long summer school at their new secondary school during which time they will get to know the layout of the school as well as some of the teachers, support staff and other new students and to have fun! There is follow-up work with the young people throughout their first year at secondary school to enable them to settle successfully into the new school environment.
