Adoption and fostering

Thinking about adoption?

Adoption is a way of providing new families for children who cannot be brought up by their own parents. It is a legal process, which transfers all the responsibilities held by the child's birth parents to the new adoptive parents. The adopters become the child's legal parents through the granting of an Adoption Order by a Court.

Thinking about fostering?

There are approximately 180 children and young people looked after by South Gloucestershire Council, the majority of these living with foster carers in South Gloucestershire. Unfortunately there are not enough foster carers and some children and young people end up placed a number of miles from school, family and friends at an already unsettling time. We are committed to try to find local placements for local children.

Thinking about Family Link?

Disabled children and young people sometimes miss out on activities and opportunities outside the home which help them to build up some independence from their own family as they grow up. Family Link makes it possible for children and young people to gain new experiences and new friends whilst, for their parents, it means some extra time for themselves and for any other children in the family.

Family Link carers provide regular short breaks to disabled children and young people including those with learning difficulties, autism and physical impairments.
