It’s not always easy to know where to go to find a trader or business you can rely on. For people in the South West that’s all about to change thanks to the Buy With Confidence scheme.

CustomerFirst (run by Devon County Council, Bath & North East Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council) has now merged with Buy With Confidence to create the largest local authority approved trader scheme in the country with more than 1,800 business members including car traders, builders, plumbers, electrical goods retailers, and more. Other authorities in the South West region including Dorset and Bournemouth Councils are set to join soon.

The main focus of the scheme is customer care and all members have to demonstrate that, as well as operating in a legal and fair way, they offer customer-friendly service. Prospective members receive a trading standards audit to check compliance with trading standards legislation and to ensure that appropriate customer service procedures are in place. If they meet the criteria they’re invited to become members of the scheme and must abide by the scheme’s code of practice. In return, members are allowed to display the distinctive Buy With Confidence logo and receive a certificate of membership – allowing them to promote their reputation as a business which cares about its customers.
