As part of the licensing process all new applicants for Hackney Carriage and private hire licences are required to undergo a driving skills and local knowledge assessment. To apply for the driving skills assessment you need to:
- Request a new driving information pack from the licensing section. This gives you more details about the assessment and what you need to take with you
- Apply for the test directly to the Driving Standards Agency. You can book your assessment online or by telephone on 0870 010 1372. The following centres in the area conduct the assessment: Brislington, Southmead and St George. - Produce the pass certificate to the licensing section at the time of submitting your application for a Hackney/private hire driver's licence
You will also be required to take a knowledge test. You must have a good working knowledge of South Gloucestershire and the surrounding area.
