Licensing - home boarding

A home boarding licence is required by anyone providing boarding services in their own home for other people’s dogs and cats, whether over night, or simply day care.

These licences are issued under the Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and run from 1st January to 31st December, requiring annual renewal. Once an application has been received, an officer will arrange to inspect the premises to ensure suitability. The licence will then be issued if all conditions are met and after payment of the licence fee.

The licence may have certain conditions attached. These conditions could relate to the size of accommodation, the number of animals licensed to board at one time, provision of food and drink, prevention and control of disease or the keeping of a register. We will carry out routine bi-annual inspections. If we receive a complaint about the establishment we will investigate it.
