The contribution of the visitor economy in South Gloucestershire is often overlooked. On average we get 4.6 million day visits and 1.3 million overnight stays per year in South Gloucestershire generating around £320 million in tourism related spend. There are an estimated 7,000 employees working in the tourism industry which is around 5% of employment in the area.
The total value of business turnover arising as a result of tourist spending, from the purchase of supplies and services locally by businesses in receipt of visitor spending and as a result of the spending of wages in businesses by employees whose jobs are directly or indirectly supported by tourism spending is estimated to be just under £400 million pounds per annum.
Destination Bristol
We work closely with Destination Bristol who are responsible for promoting and marketing Bristol and South Gloucestershire as tourism destinations. The 'Visit Bristol' website link, managed by Destination Bristol, contains detailed information on the Greater Bristol area and offers an accommodation booking service.
Green tourism
The West of England Partnership run the Green Tourism Business Scheme which is the leading sustainable certification scheme for tourism and tourism related businesses in the UK relating to environmental and social good practice. Businesses opting to join are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more.
Businesses that meet the required standard, receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold award based on their level of achievement. The current network of members is comprised of a wide range of business types, including accommodation providers, visitor attractions, corporate offices and others.

Film Friendly
South Gloucestershire Council are a Film Friendly accredited authority who provide services and information for companies wishing to film in the area. Encouraging filming in the area will bring money into the local economy as well as raising the profile of South Gloucestershire, generating tourism interest.
