Pay business rates

Business rates or National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) is the tax levied on non-domestic premises.

The money collected by the council is paid into a national pool from which it is distributed to billing authorities and major precepting authorities throughout the country.

The money received by this council from the central pool together with the income received from council tax payers, the rate support grant received from central government, the income from fees charged for some services - often supplemented by the council's own financial reserves is used to pay for the services provided.

You can pay by:

  • Direct debit
  • Via the council website *
  • Via the council's 24 hour automated telephone payments service *
  • Cheque - made payable to South Gloucestershire Council
  • Postal order - through the Post Office
  • Standing order - set this up with your bank

* Please be aware that if you choose to pay by credit card for business rates via the council's website or 24 hour automated telephone payments service, an additional charge of 1.8% will be applied to cover the council's bank charges. There will be no charge for debit cards.
