For the first three months that a property is empty business rates do not have to be paid. After that you pay 100% of your normal rates bill.
Industrial buildings are entitled to a six month exemption from the date the property first becomes empty. After that you pay 100% of your normal rates bill.
Listed buildings and small properties with rateable values of less than £2,600 do not have to pay business rates until they are occupied.

If your property has a rateable value under £18,000 and empty, you will be entitled to an exemption until 31st March 2011! After this time a 100% charge will become due.
