Avian Flu Outbreak in Oxfordshire
On 3 June, Defra confirmed Avian Influenza in chickens on a premise near Banbury in Oxfordshire. The strain has been identified as highly pathogenic.
A 3km Protection Zone and a 10km Surveillance Zone have been set up around the infected premises. Restrictions apply to birds kept within these zones.
No restrictions currently apply in the South Gloucestershire area, although poultry keepers should continue to practice good biosecurity and be vigilant for signs of disease.
If you are concerned about the health of your birds you should seek advice from your veterinary surgeon.
If you suspect that your birds have avian influenza, you should report it to Defra at Gloucester (01452 627400) immediately.
